Rotary Club of Elmhurst
The Elmhurst Rotary Club… A Commitment to Community and Humanitarian Service Since 1955
Founded in 1955, the Elmhurst Rotary Club is an organization of men and women who are committed to Doing Good in the World through community and humanitarian service.
Elmhurst Rotary supports a diverse range of philanthropic programs and institutions. In 2015, we contributed $58,500 to student scholarships, international projects and local organizations, including the Elmhurst-Yorkfield Food Pantry and an initiative to Stop Heroin in Elmhurst. We have also provided financial assistance to District 205 schools, Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, the library, park district and YMCA.
Our club has a long-standing commitment of helping deserving students attend college or vocational school. Since 1955, over 400 students from IC Catholic Prep, Timothy Christian and York high schools have received more than $500,000 in scholarships.
We are an active participant in Rotary’s Youth Exchange Program that promotes the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace at the person-to-person level. The club has hosted students from Denmark, France, Japan, Chile, Indonesia, Germany, Belgium and Brazil. We have sent students to Croatia, Indonesia, Thailand and Mexico.
Each year we treat area residents to complimentary turkey dinners at our annual Thanksgiving Dinner, co-hosted with Diplomat West Banquets of Elmhurst.
Our members join fellow Rotarians around the world in support of the Rotary International Foundation’s efforts to promote peace, fight diseases, provide clean water and address education and literacy problems. Through support of Rotary’s massive PolioPlus program, we have helped immunize 2.5 billion children in over 200 countries.
We have been a major contributor to ShelterBox, a Rotary international disaster relief organization that provides shelter, warmth and dignity to victims of natural and man-made disasters.
We raise funds for our charitable work with raffles, special events and donations from our members and the community.
Our club meets weekly on Thursdays at noon for lunch and stimulating programs at The Wilder Mansion, 211 S. Prospect Avenue, across from Elmhurst College.
