In October of 1871, much of Chicago was destroyed by one of the most legendary and cataclysmic fires in history leaving one of every three Chicago residents homeless and many unemployed in the aftermath. Eminent Chicago historian Carl Smith chronicles the fire’s dramatic story and phoenix-like rise from the ashes. This program is a collaboration with the Aurora Regional Fire Museum and will take place at their site. Participants will have an opportunity to explore their exhibits post-discussion.

150 years ago, Chicago was in the process of rebuilding itself following a devastating fire that leveled the city's center and north side over a 36-hour period. Native Chicagoan and historian Al Walavich presents a retrospective of the history, myths and lies surrounding the fire as well as an exploration of relics left behind.
